GE moving its corporate headquarters to Boston

"We've got to make the environment here more attractive. I know that that doesn't sound real sexy, but that's the reality," said Joe Brennan, CEO of the Connecticut Business and Industry Association.

GE said its new headquarters will be in the Seaport District of Boston. To offset the cost of the move the company said it will sell its offices in Fairfield and at Rockefeller Plaza in New York City.

The company employs about 5,700 people in Connecticut, including 800 at the Fairfield operation that has been its headquarters for four decades. It plans to move employees to a temporary location in Boston starting in the summer of 2016. The full move is expected to be completed in several steps by 2018.

Connecticut lobbied General Electric to stay put, but by early this week Gov. Dannel P. Malloy seemed resigned to GE making a change.

The company said it chose Boston after a consideration of factors including the business ecosystem, quality of life for employees and connections with the world.

Several states have been competing https://www.uhaul.com/ to lure the company from Fairfield, Connecticut, since GE announced in June that it was unhappy about legislative tax proposals and thinking about a move.

"I think they're going to do what they're going to do, that's what I think," he said Monday. "I think they've said that they're going to leave thousands of jobs in Connecticut one way or the other, which means they're primarily talking about headquarters operations, which would be relatively small."

"GE aspires to be the most competitive company in the world," GE Chairman and CEO Jeff Immelt said. "Today, GE is a $130 billion high-tech global industrial company, one that is leading the digital transformation of industry. We want to be at the center of an ecosystem that shares our aspirations."

But the move was seen as a blow to Connecticut's business reputation by many at the state Capitol.

Connecticut's General Assembly later passed a revised budget that scaled back some of the business-related tax increases after other companies including Aetna Inc. and the Travelers Companies Inc. criticized changes included in the state budget. But GE continued hearing pitches from other states as it said it was seeking a more business-friendly home.

General Electric, one of the best known companies in corporate America, is moving its headquarters from suburban Connecticut to Boston, the company announced Wednesday.

The company said it had been considering the composition and location of its headquarters for more than three years, and its formal review began with a list of 40 potential locations in June.

Marriage :: Love is all Around

When choosing a venue, you may wish to consider:

-Linen Rental. Your wedding design may require linen selections that are not available at your venue. Restaurants and catering halls do not have the space to storage a large inventory. A local linen rental company can easily acquire party linen rentals. Specialty linens are an easy way to make a big impact. There are many ways to work linens into your tablescapes. You may keep it simple with colored tablecloths and napkins. Or you can add a hint of drama with overlays, chair covers and sashes. (If possible, test out a few looks so there are no surprises.)

-3D Printers. These high-tech printers machines create jaw-dropping detailed cakes that are designed to impress. Really want to wow your guests? Hire a 3D printing vendor for your actual reception. Guests will be thrilled watching their custom treats being made-to-order. (It may even rival actually enjoying the unique delicacies!) For the super modern bride, you can actually have your wedding gown printed. Yes, your dream dress can be fully printed to perfectly match your measurements. Not ready to take the plunge? Thats ok. When it comes to technology, it is sometimes about baby steps. Embrace the 3D trend by sewing specially made appliques to your original gowns design.

Venues.

Dont Underestimate the Appetizers. Canaps are always a welcomed delight.

Make modifications. Modify comfort foods to support your specific theme (and perhaps, be a little healthier)

Just A Sip. Many couples demand an open bar. After all, guests love them. With todays stronger drinks, you may wish to offer transportation and sleep accommodations. For the non-drinkers, think smart drinks like coconut and vitamin water. They will revitalize guests and keep them energized throughout your entire celebration.

In planning a wedding, the venue is clearly one of the most important factors. A chosen venue means a scheduled date, time, actual location and backdrop. When choosing a venue, many couples are looking for the ideal spot. However, you can basically work with any location and transform it. It simply depends on your imaginationand budget. Lacking a little in one, either or both? You are in luck! There are so many gorgeous venues to choose from! Bonus! Venues also offer one of the easiest places for couples to compromise. Torn between an indoor or outdoor reception? Many locations provide both.

Social interaction has transformed the way you communicate with the world; you shouldnt be surprised that it has also left an impact on weddings. By now, hash tags have become commonplace. For the tech-friendly couple or those who choose to be "unplugged", there are many options to consider:

The modern couple seems to be moving towards a more uniform color palette but is still hesitant to go monochrome. What is the best way to choose your shades? Choose your main color and then complimentary accompanying shades.

-Bridal Party Attire. Like you, your bridal party also appreciates the idea of having options. It is not unusual to see complimentary bridesmaid dresses; they can either be shades of one hue or complimentary colors. And for the gents they are having fun by making some bold moves with their socks, ties and sneakers (preferable, Converse).

Savvy brides, like you, are choosing healthier menu options. While there are often the typical entrees, caterers are incorporating more natural-based items. Colorful plates are also all the rage. Vegetables are a clear winner here. They naturally are visually appealing, often bold in flavor, easy to work into a meal and good for you.

Wedding trends will forever be a hot topic. Brides, wedding professionals and outside vendors have a real need to be aware of the very latest in all things bridal. Fortunately for you, 2016 will not disappoint you.

A Sweet Farewell.

-Drones. Yes, you read it right. With todays wide range of unique venues, it only makes sense to try and preserve the memory. For years, photographers and videographers have done their part. However, drones offer views that really cannot be matched.

Send your guests off with a special memory of their own. Better yet. Send them off with a sinfully, sweet treat. You may keep it simple with some milk and cookies. Or step it up a notch with one of the 3-D print-outs mentioned earlier. Whatever you choosejust make sure to send them home with a smile.

-Simple doesnt necessarily mean easy. When done right, industrial and rustic destinations deceptively look simple. Keep in mind that these types of places are typically blank canvases. Typically, you should expect renting everything necessary to facilitate a reception (e.g. tables, chairs, linens, catering). Event designers are ideal in this type of situation.

Technology.

-Two-in-one Locations. You can get the most bang for your buck with a venue that features the facilities to cater to both your ceremony and reception. If two venues are a must, you may wish to consider looking into transportation for your guests.

Designing a wedding can be quite overwhelming. Between all the wedding planning sites, the articles, social media..shall we go on? While it is great to have options, it sometimes can be a bit too much. We hope that you have enjoyed a quick look at some current and upcoming bridal trends. Happy planning!

Healthy but hearty.

Additional food trends are:

-GoPro. As the bride makes her way down the aisle, guests and photographers are zeroed in on her. Wouldnt it be wonderful to have a unique perspective of the entire bridal party (and guests)? GoPro cameras allow just that. The cameras can be placed strategically throughout the venue; you are going to love the candid shots that may be enjoyed for years to come.

Isnt it https://www.northamerican.com/ scary to think that at one point in time weddings were (dare we say?) basic? While not to take away from the glamour of weddings past, you cannot deny there was a uniform approach. The modern couple is so fortunate. There are countless options to mix and match. Once pulled together, you are left with a truly unique experience. Desserts have gone from cherries jubilee to custom-designed cakes. Signature cocktails have replaced White Russians. Everyone loves a good throwback but thank goodness for choices!

Shades of Color.

Easy ways to add a little color to your Big Day:

Medicine :: Preventative Medicine and Sports Therapy for Performing Arts

Preventative medicine and sports therapy for performing artists can teach them how to avoid injury and reduce the likelihood of a developing an unwanted condition. Performers can learn techniques for reducing force on joints by selectively strengthening and balancing the muscles needed to perform. Musicians can learn about how different postures reduce muscle tension produced while playing their instruments. Dancers who struggle with osteoarthritis in their hips and knees may receive Durolane injections directly into the joints to lubricate them, relieving pain and inflammation. Can you imagine how much relief this brings to a dancer otherwise forcing him or herself to continue dancing in pain?

For these reasons preventative medicine and sports therapy for performing artists are growing.

Sound care now becomes an investment enabling performing artists to increase their level of pain-free comfort, physical strength, enjoyment and longevity within the field they are passionate about -- and that many hope to continue well into their senior years.

http://www.articlebiz.com/article/1051558224-1-preventative-medicine-and-sports-therapy-for-performing-arts/

Professional musicians and dancers face common injuries like tendinitis, sprains, muscle strains, carpal tunnel syndrome, neck and back pain, and other orthopedic, neurologic and musculoskeletal conditions.

Think about the repetitive nature of practice and performance for string musicians, pianists and wind instrument players. Its little wonder they often suffer from conditions related to overuse of the tendons, ligaments, muscles and joints. Neck and shoulder pain is very common. So is pain in the hands. Dancers tend to face musculoskeletal and orthopedic conditions involving the feet, ankles, hips and knees and are also more prone to injury regarding bones and ligaments such as the ACL.

Theatre is a wonderful form of entertainment and depends on performing artists who are highly dedicated to their craft to create the magic so often found there. The industry, however, is highly competitive and extremely demanding of performers. When people think of athletes they may picture football, tennis or basketball players or long distance runners. But like other athletes, dancers and musicians also experience injury and develop conditions as a result of their trade.

Techniques that both dancers and musicians can adopt include warm up and cool down exercises, stretches, short breaks, adjustments in technique, use of devices and modified foot gear, massage therapy and more. Sports therapy professionals can work with performing artists to stretch and loosen tight areas and strengthen weak ones. Combination treatment options like injections in correlation with procedures for reducing inflammation and blood flow to a targeted region are essential restorative therapies which often remove the need for surgery.

It is not uncommon to see medical personnel from sports therapy clinics present at rehearsals and performances. These behind the scenes professionals can do wonders to support and enhance performing artists, helping them avoid injury and also mitigating injuries to avoid further damage. Sports medicine is a quickly evolving industry and medical advances are constant. Performing artists stand to increase their rate of long-term success by establishing and building a relationship with a good sports therapy clinic that understands and specializes in treatment of people in their industry.

Occasionally chronic injuries and/or conditions develop as a http://www.topmovingcompany4u.com/ result of incorrect posture, stress, insufficient rest and excessive force placed upon the bones, ligaments, joints, muscles or tendons. Passion that drives performing artists also tends to produce people so committed to the craft they often tend to accept a lifestyle of injury as easily as theyve embraced the physical demands placed upon them. But the two are not the same, and injury left untreated can jeopardize a performers career. Performing artists who ignore early symptoms of an injury or condition and continue working, without allowing conditions or injuries to heal, arent thinking of the long term consequences to their body and their ability to work. Ignoring a small problem now can lead to a larger one later.

10 Tips To Successfully Packing Your Moving Boxes

8.Write down a list of how many medium, large and porta-robe boxes you have packed to ensure that none go missing in between your old premises and your new premises.

9.Get your moving boxes early, this way you can start to pack weeks in advance and not be under stress to finish it quickly. People who pack too quickly may end up throwing everything into boxes and often this will result in items being damaged during transport.

1.Pack one room at a time and pack the least used items first. People often pack everything without deciding what they will need in the coming weeks. They end up having to open up some of the moving boxes to find something they need. Save the items you use most frequently until the last few days to ensure you don't have to go through all the moving boxes searching for needed items.

2.Once you have taped the removal boxes, write on the tape detailed notes about what is in each box. Remember you may know roughly what is in each box but once you have moved and you have the huge task of unpacking 60 boxes, you may want to prioritise what you unpack and leave the unnecessary items for later. Writing things such as "KITCHEN" may not be as convenient as writing detail like "pots/pans/toaster", especially if you require a late night meal after a long day of unpacking.Large Packing Box - Sample Contents

5.Ensure any really expensive items are either carried yourself or are under careful watch. Don't leave your important valuables such as jewellery with removalists who may take less care of something than you would in your own hands.

3.Use strong sturdy boxes for moving. All Hire A Box packing boxes used are of very high quality and generally a lot thicker than those use by removalists. Using thick well-made boxes means you can fill the boxes right to the brim and stack them on top of each other without worry they will collapse. It also makes carrying them a lot easier.

4.Ensure the boxes are taped correctly. Run the tape across the bottom of the box along the join at least 2 or 3 times to ensure the bottom doesn't give way whilst it is being carried.

7.Use bubble wrap to protect delicate items such as pictures or china. Mark the boxes that carry these items as "Fragile" and mark as "This Side Up" to prevent mishandling. Only http://www.flatrate.com/ use plain white butchers paper when wrapping cutlery and crockery as ink tends to come off onto your goods and stain them when using newspaper sheets.

6.It is best packing practise to put heavier items at the bottom of the box and lighter items towards the bottom. This will ensure the lighter items do not get crushed under a heavy load. Also if you fill a tea chest box for example completely with books, you will find it too heavy to carry. You don't need to risk hurting your or your removalist's back by making the boxes excessively heavy.

10.Generally small and medium boxes are better to carry smaller heavier items such as books, CD's, glassware etc. Larger boxes are used for bulkier and lighter items such as pots pans, cushions, etc.

Economic solution found for long-distance batch tracking.

* Color.

Broyles had experimented with picking up the analog signals from the densitometer, fluorometer and colorimeter at the upstream station and loading them onto a powerful data logger controlled remotely by a PLC at the Gretna station. The PLC was supposed to supervise the communication, the dial-up and the downloading of data, and send the output signals to the chart recorder. The data logger's poor communications capability soon caused problems. It had no error-checking capability, and mis-dialling errors were creating some exceptional long-distance charges. If a signal was out of range, useless data were recorded due to poor input conditioning. Broyles estimated that a system with a PLC that could handle the required input conditioning and enough power and intelligence for communications capabilities would cost more than $10,000. Using a large RTU with the required capability could cost between $10,000 and $20,000, Broyles estimated.

The three basic characteristics used to measure and identify thedifferent grades of refined products in the pipeline at any given pointand time are:

* Density.

Jack Broyles, a technologist with IPL in Edmonton, said he stumbled across the technology that would solve the communications need and fit the project's budget at a trade show at Edmonton sponsored by the Instrument Society of America.

Gretna Station

Broyles was looking for a communication device with MODBUScommunications capability to integrate into a proposed PLC-based dataacquisition system when he found Unitec's UIC. With its on-boardcommunications capability, the use of a remote unit and a master unitwould eliminate the need for MODBUS communications and PLCs.

Programming and configuring the entire operation took only a week, instead of the several weeks needed earlier to install the PLC using ladder logic and set up the data logger.

The crude oil and liquid hydrocarbons flow through the pipeline in batches, each containing thousands of barrels and occupying many miles of pipeline. Keeping the batches separate requires constant monitoring, control systems, tankage and installations such as pump stations located 40 to 60 miles apart along the system. Pump stations add pressure to the product in the pipeline to push it at about 3 to 5 mph. As a result, all particles in the line move at the same average speed (turbulent flow). If the oil moves slowly, the fluid closest to the walls would move slower than the material in the center (laminar flow), causing batches to intermingle.

The length of pipeline involved and the variety in the 50 different grades of crude oil and liquid hydrocarbons carried create very exacting batch-tracking needs, where the identification of the interface between different products and grades must be clearly identified.

"We would have had to spend between $20,000 and $50,000 to get equipment that could handle three analog signals that portrayed this pipeline's characteristics over time, and get that time-based signal from one location to another," Broyles said. The UIC's data storage and secure communications were also advantageous, he said, and the menu-driven configuration manager saved time and money.

Batch-Tracking Needs

The UIC can operate as a stand-alone controller at remote pipeline locations to monitor and control meters and other instruments, valves, pumps, flow controls, or linked to a host computer for a full SCADA system via built-in dial-up telephone, lead line telephone or radio modern.

Once Interprovincial Pipe Line Inc., the largest crude oil pipelinecarrier in the world, identified a need for some new batch-trackingprocedures, it took some time to track down an effective yet economicalsolution.

IPL, based in Edmonton, Alberta, transports some 1.4 million bbl/day of various crude oil and liquid hydrocarbons (including refined products) across Canada, into the U.S. and back across eastern Canada. The IPL pipeline system, including its U.S. subsidiary Lakehead Pipe Line Inc., includes pipe from 12 to 48 in. that extends some 2,300 miles across North America--from Edmonton to Superior. Wisc., and Montreal.

Commingling inevitably occurs at the interface of contiguous batches of different grade products during the long pipeline journey, especially when additional products are injected at various points along the way. It is essential that this commingling does not degrade the higher-grade products at their final point of delivery.

* Fluorescence.

Gretna, one of the final delivery points, is a pumping station some 70 miles south of Winnipeg from where refined products are shipped to market.

Gretna's distance from an upstream monitoring station created a communications need for transmitting three time-based analog signals (measuring density, fluorescence and color) from the monitoring station to Gretna. The data had to be captured in a processor memory at the upstream station, transmitted 200 miles to Greta and reproduced there on a chart recorder.

He saw a universal industrial controller, designed by Unitec Canada for remote monitoring and control, that combined the power and speed of a standard remote terminal unit into a package smaller than a programmable logic controller and at half the price. The UIC has a fault-tolerant dual memory with error detection and correction. The menu-driven configuration manager makes it easier to configure in the field than a PLC and does not require the assistance of an electrician knowledgeable about ladder logic.

http://www.thefreelibrary.com/Economic+solution+found+for+long-distance+batch+tracking.-a015678393

"This high-resolution input conditioning was key to solving our particular problem in taking analog signals, capturing that data and moving it to another site, recording it there and doing that cost effectively," Broyles said.

The menu-driven configuration manager makes it easy for operators with little or no computer experience to configure the system to perform polling and dial-ups, message relays, downloading of new programs, status display and debugging. Enabling and sequencing I/O, and scaling analog I/O, can also be https://www.angieslist.com/research/movers-and-moving-companies/ performed using the configuration manager without knowledge of ladder logic.

Why Beretta is moving its gun factory to Tennessee

The American subsidiary of the 500-year-old Italian company has had a factory in Accokeek, Maryland since the 1970s. The company has manufactured the M9, the U.S. Army's standard-issue sidearm, since 1987 at that factory, which is about 20 miles south of Washington, D.C.

Beretta is relocating the factory to Gallatin, Tenn., in early 2016, because it's worried that Maryland gun laws could force it out of the state.

Maryland is one of several states that have passed new gun laws to restrict military-style semiautomatic rifles and high capacity magazines since the mass shooting in Newtown, Connecticut, three years ago. These weapons have been used in subsequent mass shootings, including the recent one in San Bernardino.

The state's Firearm Safety Act of 2013, championed by former Maryland governor and Democratic presidential candidate Martin O'Malley, targets assault weapons, banning 45 guns and limiting magazine capacity to 10 rounds.

The Maryland law means that Beretta's M9 semiautomatic pistol, which holds 15 rounds, is now illegal in the state, said Beretta USA's lead lawyer, Jeff Reh. He said the ban also applies to Beretta's pistol grip shotguns, and also to the semiautomatic rifles like the ARX 100.

Reh said that the company lobbied successfully to change the law so that Beretta could continue to make, import and warehouse these guns in Maryland, even though private citizens can't own them.

Related: Remington shifts jobs from N.Y. to Alabama

Still, Reh said, the company realized that "with the http://www.movingcompany.com/ stroke of a pen our ability to manufacture products for the armed forces, or police, or even civilians, could be blocked."

But the city of Gallatin, Tennessee, welcomed Beratta's $45 million gun factory with open arms and $4 million in incentives. That includes 100 acres of land worth $1.75 million and a 10-year tax abatement worth about $2.2 million, according to James Fenton, Gallatin's economic development director.

"It was the best financial package that we were offered," said Reh.

three berettasBeretta's M9 handguns are restricted in Maryland because the magazines can hold more than 10 rounds. So the company moved production to Tennessee.

Gallatin is a city of more than 30,000 people some 20 miles out of Nashville, which puts it close to an international airport, a necessity for the gunmaker.

"We will see an immediate increase in real and personal property taxes," said Fenton. "We have seen a jump in local sales tax during the first phase of construction. Additionally, there continues to be robust interest in the area because of the [Beretta] announcement."

Fenton expects the factory to eventually employ 300 people, most of them hired locally. Beretta's sales, marketing, legal and customer service staff will stay in Maryland.

Beretta's move south started when the company's patriarch, Ugo Gussalli Beretta, asked Reh to identify "the most consistently pro-Second Amendment states in the country."

"He told me, 'If we're going to build a factory somewhere, I want to put it in a state where I don't have to worry about it, or my sons don't have to worry about it, or even my grandkids,'" said Reh. "So he's taking a 100-year view of the company."

This will be the third factory that Beretta has built since the company started in the early 1500s.

Reh said that he personally visited 80 potential factory locations in Georgia, Texas, the Carolinas, Kentucky and also Virginia, which he liked because of its proximity to Maryland. But he abandoned Virginia because Governor Terry McAuliffe, a Democrat, ran for office on a gun control platform.

Gallatin's James Fenton said that gun control laws in Virginia and Maryland are a boon for Tennessee.

"I would like to mention that the [former] governor of Maryland is my best friend for passing that legislation," he said, "even though we've never met."
